Creating Silhouettes

I am indebted to whoever was generous enough to upload this beautiful silhouette on Wikimedia Commons – placing it in public domain.

In the October 2012 issue of Family Fun magazine, there are instructions for how to make a simple silhouette.

First, photograph your child’s head from the side.

Next, enlarge the photo on your computer to the size you like, then print in black and white.

Third, lay the image on top of a sheet of black paper, cutting around the head and shoulders, through both pieces of paper.

Remove the back panel from a frame and cover the panel with a glue stick, then lay on a background fabric trimming the fabric to fit the panel.

Attach the silhouette to the fabric with a glue stick. Finally, reassemble the frame.

These silhouettes would make wonderful Christmas gifts for grandparents. Lots of love on a shoestring!
