Toys Made Out of Tin Cans

I saw this cool kid’s riding train engine at an antique store. Obviously, some dad or granddad – or maybe mom or grandma – spent hours lovingly cutting metal cans of all sizes to make this unique toy for a little one.

This reminded me of a book I mentioned in “Money, How to Be Rich Without It and How to Stretch It Using Ten HInts from the Past and the Technology of Today.” “How Make Toys out of Tin Cans” by Edward Thatcher was written in 1919 and is available as a free ebook. The cost in these items is mostly labor and even if the children who receive these toys today don’t realize how much that expresses love, one day they will.

Homemade toys and gifts really do say, “You are worth the time I spent doing this. I love you.”
